Along Came Polly

Being a Ben Stiller fan and having a soft spot for Jennifer Aniston, ‘Along Came Polly’ seemed like almost the perfect romantic comedy to watch at home on a boring rainy night. With Ben Stiller’s mix of visual and spoken comedy the film is perfect for its audience. It does not challenge them in anyway. Meaning, it doesn’t require you to use your brain while watching this film. It’s straightforward, and there aren’t any mind twisting scenarios where you have to put two and two together for it to make cense. I find that it progresses on towards its conclusion at an even pace, and also has the perfect of amount of comedy. I particularly like the reoccurring ferret jokes.

This film is pretty standard and its sits safely within its genre. I don’t find that there is too much romance or comedy. It’s just enough to keep the viewer interested. It does not innovate, it does not educate, and it definitely does not challenge the audience. It’s simply a standard and mediocre film. It isn’t the best that Stiller has to offer by a mile, and Aniston does what she does best, plays a woman who everyone would like to be friends with.

It is not the type of film that I would particularly choose to watch, but I have to say for its genre, I expected way worse. It was great to sit back and watchthis movie without having to use my brain.  I had the pleasure in guessing how the story line would unravel. Overall, it was a pretty cool romantic comedy. I was expecting way more romantic scenes, but Ben Stiller never lets you down with his humor. It isn’t exactly a masterpiece but it wasn’t a disaster either. I would recommend this film to the people who enjoy watching romantic comedies, and to any Ben Stiller fan.

The Dark Knight

I have to say, that I am a big action movie fan. The more explosions and fights there are the merrier. As a child, I watched all the batman sequels and not one of them let me down. They always had a great story to them and I never got bored of watching them until now. When I watch an action movie, I expect huge explosions, gunshots, crazy car chases, a ‘bad guy’, and a ‘good guy’. These things can’t happen in real life all at the same time, and that’s what makes it so cool and interesting to keep watching.

My expectations of this movie were more then met. They really pulled it off with all the different characters. The weapons, the cars, and the fighting were phenomenal. It was everything I was expecting and more.

The actual dialogue could have been a little shorter, but the lines that the characters were saying were very well thought out. The writer who wrote this script was totally awesome and did a great job. The characters were well re enacted, but my favorite was of course the joker. Heath Ledger really out did himself with this one. He absolutely disserved an award for this film. Its too bad he passed away. My favorite parts are the ones with the joker. Especially when he explains how he got the scars as a child.

The directing was excellent in this movie because it didn’t look like the actors were acting. It was fluent and looked absolutely natural. If a movie has to keep me interested, then it has to seem that it may really happen. This is what kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. If only we had villains and heroes in real life.

The acting in this movie was awesome especially the joker. Everything about him was great. His voice, his appearance and even his lines. When you think of it, he played his role so well that it would be believable that he was actually like that in real life. The batman was also played a good role, although I didn’t like that fact that he was changing the way he spoke from when he was under his suit and when he wasn’t.

I would recommend this movie to all superhero buffs, and to those who like fictional action movies. It is full of explosions, gunshots, car chases and surprises (definitely what an action movies needs). It is not a predictable movie and it’s one of the best that came out in 2008.

12 Year Old Sues Father

I am with the 12 year olds father 100%! The 12 year old over reacted in my opinion. She doesn’t have the right to make her mother go against her father even though they are divorced. The mother is sueing her ex husband for a stupid reason. I am sure that she was upset with him in the first place due to some unknown reason, and punishing their daughter just fuelled her engine. The father had every right to punish his daughter, and the mother should have defended her ex husband. Even though they are divorced, what lesson is she teaching her child by sueing him for such a stupid reason? Parents are supposed to be equal in the eyes of the child. I my opinion, the 12 year old is spoiled and her mother isn’t any better. Sueing her ex husband for half the cost of the daughter’s trip is totally pathetic. Now –a-day’s people have nothing else better to do and are so greedy for money that they don’t care how they get it, as long as they do get it.

Does Technology Make People Lazy?

Now-a-days more and more people are buying computers, and getting easy access to the internet. It is probably a proven fact by now that students have become a lot more lazy over the years due to our advanced technology. There is no need to go to a library anymore to spend time looking for the right encyclopedia or book. All we have to do is open up the internet and we will find exactly what we’re looking for.

As I was growing up technology was always pretty high-tech although it was much slower. When downloading music it would take a whole day to download one or two songs. It would even take a close to a week  to download a whole album. It was more worth  walking to the store and pay for the CD then wait for an album to download. Today, all it takes is several ours to download a movie or an artists discography.

I’ve seen bits and pieces of technology improving during my life time but it doesn’t come close to what my grandparents generation has gone threw. They grew up with absolutely nothing to slowly advancing in technology. They didn’t have washing machines to wash their clothes, or electric/ gas powered stoves to cook their food. But these items have been evolved and they got to see it all happen.

When wrighting an essay I don’t even have to worry about spelling because theres a spell check. If there wasnt a spell check then I would have to use a dictionary to see how to spell it. The internet even has a dictionary so we don’t even have to flip through an actual dictionary and find the word.

Pepsi Max: Do They Go Too Far?

Pepsi Max advertisements are very catchy. If I were to be skimming through a magazine and come across some creature trying to kill itself, I’d stop on that page and observe every detail of it. It is somewhat humourous, although I do think Pepsi is taking it a little too far with the ”One Very Lonely Calorie” add. A lot of people often make fun of suicidal thoughts although they don’t really mean it. For example… If someone is bored out of their mind and can’t take it anymore, they will probably make a suicidal comment like ”I’m going to shoot myself for how bored I am.” It isn’t because they literally want to kill themselves, but for the simple reason that they’re so bored.

There are many lonely people out there. Most of these people have no friends, lost contact with their family members, went through many job oppurtunities and yet no body knows their names. After a certain perdiod of being lonely all the time, I think that the pepsi max advertisement will affect certain people. There is a difference on the impact it has on  lonely people and people who aren’t lonely. If a person who isn’t lonely would look at this add, they would find it humourous or maybe even stupid. On the other hand, if a lonely person would look at it they would most probably feel more left out and maybe even have suicidal thoughts. In my oppinion, Pepsi Max do go a little too far with their adds. There are many other affective ways to advertise for a product.

Vancouver Olympics 2010

Just like everything else, there are both pros and cons when organizing the winter Olympics. Next year, in 2010 the Olympics are being held in Vancouver, British Columbia. Its really something to know that the winter Olympics will be hosted by the country I live in. After all, Canada hosted two other Olympic events which took place in the summer of 1976 in Montreal and the 1988 winter Olympics which took place in Calgary. Its about time we host another Olympic event and hopefully we’ll win many medals.   Not only is it an exciting event, but patriotic as well.

Since the United States and Canada or allies, we import and export materials. With the US going through a recession, this should affect the winter Olympics taking place next year in Vancouver. Research shows that the 2010 winter Olympics will create an economic impact in British Columbia worth $10.7 billion.  This is the con of hosting the Olympics. Ofcourse it already costs an extreme amount of money to prepare for the event, but with the US going through a recession wont help the situation. All in all, I hope it wont affect Canada all that much since we are taking the time and effort to host the Olympics.

Medias Effect on Drop Outs

Other than teachers being able to teach students what they need to know to graduate, the media can be a great advantage as well. Now-a-days the drop-out rate is getting higher and higher and the situation will not get better by its self. I think that the media would be a great advantage to help people graduate. I always hear my friends discuss about how bad their teacher’s are, or how bad their attitudes can be. If a teacher isint inspiring a student, and the student doesnt feel like learning from such a boring person, this take a big toll on how the student will progress with his or her marks. A solution to this would be learning at home in peace with no distractions by using the internet. The internet has everything and anything someone would possibly want to learn about. So if a teacher isint doing the best job to teach whatever subject, there would be a simpler way without getting agitated. And with the drop out rates skyrocketing, im sure all those drop out are wanting to do something about it and take a positive step forward.

1) Parachutes: Parachutes can be used in emergency situations as well as recreational purposes. If you want the thrill of jumping from way up in the sky, there is no way you would do it without a parachute. In an emergency situation like an airplane crash, the safest way to survive would be to jump out using a parachute to ensure a safe landing.

2) Electricity: Probably the biggest invention ever made. without electricity we wouldn’t have light, we wouldn’t be able to use microwaves or ovens, can’t use a fridge to preserve food, we wouldn’t be able to communicate with others using a telephone, can’t watch television, we wouldn’t even be able to take a shower!

3) Telephones: Instead of writing letters to relatives, friends, and even work related people, this new and improved invention saves a lot of time and effort. Its also really great for emergency situations.

4) Airplanes: If we were to go anywhere around the world, this would be the fastest way there. Not only will you save time traveling, but its also the safest way to get around. Wherever you want to go, you’re sure to get there in a matter of hours.

5) Wheel: If the wheel wasn’t invented, we wouldn’t have bicycles and cars, or anything with wheels. Its always easier to push something on wheels then it is to carry.

6) Shoes: They keep your feet from getting dirty, they’re warm, and they’re comfortable. Not to mention, stylish as well. They basically keep anything pointy or sharp objects from piercing through your foot. No one likes stepping on a rusty nail, do they?

7) Mattress: Without a mattress, it would be pretty uncomfortable to fall asleep. I’m sure anyone on this earth prefers a nice mattress over a plank of wood to sleep on every night.

8 ) Internet: We can use internet for many things. Like looking up information on anything, we can download music using the internet, watch television, and communicate with people around the world. Never before in human history has such a valuable resource been available to so many people at such a low price.

9) MP3 players: Its a great invention because its pocket size, and carries many songs (depending on GB). Songs can be uploaded for free using torrents on the internet.

10) Zipper: The new school version of buttons. Without zippers, there would only be buckles and buttons. Its a great time saver and makes things a lot simpler.

Although dreaming occurs during the other stages of sleep as well, the most vivid dreaming takes place during the REM stage.

Obamas Inauguration

Tuesday, January 20th was a very special day. The day that Barack Obama finally became the 44th president of the United States. His inauguration touched the hearts of millions of people. During the inauguration, Obama brought up a few quotes in which caught my attention. He promised to prepare the nation for a new age. This means a lot to me because if he keeps his word, our land we live on will be peaceful and much more appreciated by people around the world. He brings up the truth about how homes have been lost, jobs shed, business’ shuttered, expensive health care, schools that failed too many, and the way we use energy is threatening our planet. It is no lie that all of this is happening. We all hope that this intelligent, and spiritual man will keep his word and make a change for the better. Eventually, the challenges will be met as he included in his speech.
Hope over fear was another quote that struck my attention. In order to run a country as a leader, hope and confidence is much more effective than fear. The war in Iraq was inflicted due to fear. Instead of making situations better, it just resulted in more fear and destruction. Obama as a new president will be the most effective thing. A positive mind like his will actually change things around for the better. I’m sure that when he implied ”All are equal, all are free, and all deserve the chance to pursue happiness” touched the hearts of many. It doesnt matter how rich you are, or what you look like. What matters is how positive your mind is, and you’ll succeed in what ever your heart desires. After all, Obama is the first black president and wanting to make a difference.
